Acorn Insurance is underwritten by who?
Haven Insurance, situated in Gibraltar, underwrites Acorn’s vehicle insurance plans.
The Financial Conduct Authority has authorized and regulated Acorn Insurance and Financial Services Ltd.
Different levels of coverage offered by Acorn Insurance
There are different levels of coverage provided by Acorn Insurance. They include:
- Third-party insurance
Acorn Insurance provides this third-party liability coverage as a bare minimum. However, all drivers in the United Kingdom are required by law to have at least this level of coverage.
You’ll be insured for damage to third-party vehicles or property if you’re at fault in an accident. However, it will not cover any damage to your own vehicle.
- Third-Party Fire and Theft coverage
This level of insurance coverage gives the same amount of coverage as third-party insurance, but it also includes coverage for fire damage and theft.
- Comprehensive coverage
This is the most comprehensive coverage available. It provides the same level of protection as the previous levels while also ensuring your car is against vandalism and accidental damage.
It’s always worth checking because it can be less expensive than Third Party or TPFT.
Extras available as an option
Acorn Insurance can add a variety of extra protections to your insurance, including:
- Coverage for a breakdown
- Coverage for key care
- Excessive security
- Exclusions in general
If any of the following events occur, your Acorn Insurance policy will most likely become void:
- Your vehicle is being driven by an unknown policyholder or someone who does not have a legal driver’s license.
- Rallies, races, and competitions are held in your car.
- You are compensated for transporting passengers.
- You have not paid your premium.
- During the policy’s term, you switch to an automobile that the insurer won’t cover.
- You don’t give the proper documentation to back up your application.
What is the source of my excess?
Your insurance excess is the amount you’ve committed to paying in the event of a claim. Your insurer will not pay a claim that costs less than your excess.
When you buy insurance, you usually choose a voluntary excess amount. You can choose to add or increase a voluntary excess, which could lower your premium.
The mandatory excess amount varies based on your car’s age and driving experience.
You’ll find information about mandatory or voluntary excesses in your policy document.

Acorn Insurance’s Claim Procedure
You should contact Acorn Insurance at 0345 092 0700 to file a claim. This is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week claims notification line.
You can text your Acorn Insurance policy number and your vehicle registration number to 83118 if you’d like Acorn to call you back.
In any case, you’ll need to include your contact information as well as other relevant data concerning the occurrence.
It’s also critical to notify your insurer within 24 hours of an occurrence, even if it wasn’t your fault. Failure to do so could cause your claim to be rejected.
Discounts on Car Insurance from Acorn
Acorn provides a standard set of car insurance discounts, including savings for good driving records, no claims discounts, and paying in full at the beginning of each policy year.
- No Claims Discount: Each year you go without filing a claim should boost your NCD by one year, up to a maximum of five years.
- Pay in advance: To avoid interest costs, pay your full premium at the start of the policy.
- Purchase your policy as soon as possible: Purchasing your coverage a few weeks before the start date can save you money in most cases.
- Driving safely: Having a clean driving record can help you save money on your license renewal.
Fees for Cancellation and Administration
Depending on the date you cancel your policy, Acorn charges anywhere from £0 to £100 in cancellation costs. You may also have to pay a fee to the insurance company (e.g., Haven Insurance).
Expect to pay £25 each time you make another administrative change. You’ll also have to pay a new policy set up charge and renewal fees, which are detailed in their terms of service.
